In its worst nightmarish disaster Indian Navy fears to lose all 18 on-board submariners who were trapped at its most advanced diesel-electric submarine, INS Sindhurakshak. No contact has been established with the attentive officials since massive explosions took place in the dockyard in Mumbai on late Tuesday night.
of Naval Staff Admiral DK Joshi describe the incident as “catastrophic”.
According to Navy sources there is not much hope that the sailors are still alive.
“The vessel flooded after a hole was ripped out in the vessel. We are trying to take out water from the vessel and bring it out so that we can examine the vessel. We have set up a board of enquiry to find out what went wrong,” the Navy chief said.
“Despite all efforts and resources available we cannot say anything because the water is muddy and there is no visibility inside,” he added.
