The appointment of Bikram Singh comes at a time when the Army looks in disorder as it is badly hit by infightings and scandals. His appointment was challenged in Supreme Court too. Lt-Gen Bikram Singh remained as chief-designate for the last three months because of severe resistance to his appointment.
During his forty years career, Punjab Public School alumni, General Bikram Singh handled various high profile command and projects. He was involved in various controversies too. There was serious question on his leadership quality when his troops were engaged in indiscipline during his tenure in Congo on a UN mission.
