Unrest in Pakistan continues as the anti-government protesters led by Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan and moderate cleric Tahir-ul Qadri staged violent protests outside Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Islamabad.
One woman was killed in police firing and several others were injured.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has shifted his residence to Lahore from Islamabad.
PTI quoted a source in the ruling PML(N), who confirmed the report as saying “Sharif had vacated the prime minister house fearing it might come under siege from the protesters.”
Cicketer-turned politician Imran Khan also has threatened to file murder cases against Nawaz Sharif and interior minister.
Calling the movement as “struggle for freedom”, Imran Khan said, “What right do they have to stop us? We will protest, it’s our fundamental right. We are here until we punish these two criminals.”
The protests have been erupted since August 14, with the allegations of rigging during 2013 general elections. Both Imran Khan and Tahir-ul Qadri demanded immediate resignation of Nawaz Sharif and order of fresh polls.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night Pakistan government ruled out possibility of Sharif’s resignation and also rejected opposition allegations.
