Denying U.S.A’s claims of North Korea being behind cyber-attacks, a statement from China said it opposed all forms of cyber-attacks but there was no proof to state that North Korea was responsible for the hacking of Sony Pictures.
China is the main ally of North Korea and is expectantly defending it.
North Korea on the other hand warned USA of strikes against the White House, Pentagon and the whole of US mainland. According to what BBC reported, North Korea accused the US President Barack Obama of recklessly making the rumour that North Korea was being the Sony attack.
Though the motives of hackers are yet to be ascertained, it has been tied to the planned release of the film The Interview, which had depicted an assassination attempt on North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The hackers have been threatening with dire consequences if the film is released. Sony has since cancelled the scheduled release of the movie.
On Friday, FBI said investigators had found what it called enough information to conclude that the DRPK (North Korean political party) was responsible for the attack. However, the DRPK has strongly rejected the accusations. It was also proposed a joint investigation with the USA while rejecting the blame on Pyongyang.
It also warned the US of “serious consequences” should it reject the proposal for a joint investigation and insist taking response measures, a news report on China’s Global Times said.
Answering a question in his year-end press conference, US President Barack Obama said, “They caused a lot of damage, and we will respond. We will respond proportionally, and we’ll respond in a place and time and manner that we choose. It’s not something that I will announce here today at a press conference.”
