Protests in Hong Kong walked the road on Saturday in demand of democracy and rights to vote. The movement, which began on Monday with students boycotting classes and asking China for providing full voting rights and freedom to choose elected government, has now becoming a full-fledged campaign.
The protest sparks following Chinese government’s new election rules which say candidates for the top posts in Hong Kong must be selected by a committee set-up by Chinese Communist Party in Beijing.
Over 60,000 protesters gathered for a Saturday night rally, despite the blockage from police to not allow them a peaceful sit-in outside the government headquarters.
The movement is demanding less involvement from Beijing and Organizers have promised a continuous protest from Sunday till the government released all those students who have been detained by the police. Students have also asked Chief Executive of Hong Kong C.Y. Leung to talk directly to them.
