North Korea has asked the foreign embassies to evacuate from Pyongyang because they could not guarantee their safety if any imminent war breaks out due to rising nuclear tensions on the Korean peninsula.
The UK embassy released a statement which said it has “received a communication from the North Korean government this morning saying that the North Korean government would be unable to guarantee the safety of embassies and international organizations in the country in the event of conflict from April 10.”
“We are consulting international partners about these developments. No decisions have been taken, and we have no immediate plans to withdraw our embassy,” the statement added.
Most of the countries have ignored this order and diplomats remained in office on Saturdays despite warnings by North Korea under the leadership of Kim Jong-un.
“UN staff in the DPRK remain engaged in their humanitarian and developmental work throughout the country,” said UN spokesman Martin Nesirky.
“The security of the German embassy and its exposure to danger are continually being evaluated. For now, the embassy can continue working,” said the German foreign ministry in a statement on Saturday.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, “This proposal has been sent to all the embassies in Pyongyang. We are now trying to clarify the situation. We asked our North Korean neighbors a few questions that need to be asked in this situation.”
The South Korean media claimed that North Korea had placed two missiles at the east coast which can also target Japan or US Pacific bases along with South Korea.
