Nearly 36 hours after its militants ruptured peace in the capital city Paris, France,on Sunday, zeroed in on prime ISIS locations in Syria. In its first attack on the Islamic State after the gruesome Paris attack, French warplanes destroyed a command centre, recruitment centre and a training camp in Syria’s Raqa city, considered to be an IS stronghold.
Sunday’s operation was carried out in coordination with forces from the United States and 12 warplanes, including 10 fighter bombers dropped 20 bombs on the IS targets in the Syrian city.
President Francois Hollande had said vowed revenge against the perpetrators of the bestial attack that killed 129 and injured over 300.
This operation came in as France was returning back to normalcy and French security officials had launched a manhunt for the eighth suspect of the sleeper cell who got away. On Sunday, security officials announced seven arrests and traced the car used by terrorists on Friday night. The supplier of the vehicle was also nabbed by the police. Six family members of one of the jihadist killed during the attack were rounded up by the police.
In the aftermath, France is under a thick security blanket, with additional military deployed in all major cities.
