India joined elite club of intercontinental ballistic missile or ICBM today after successfully test-fired 5000-km range surface-to-surface strategic missile Agni-V. Agni-V can cover China as well as greater part of Europe. India now has developed as a major missile power in the world.
On Thursday morning at 8.07 am, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has tested from Wheeler Island in Odisha coast. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister AK Antony congratulated the scientists for their success.
Only five other countries – US, Russia, China, France and UK, have so far able to launched this ballistic missile.
The nuclear-capable Agni-V becomes operational by 2014-2015.
