Pakistan’s ex-cricket captain and Tehreek-e-Insaaf chief, Imran Khan has reportedly cancelled his India trip amid presence of Booker winning uthor Salman Rushdie at India Today conclave in New Delhi. Imran Khan has refused to share the same stage with the controversial author at the conference.
A statement from Tehreek-e-Insaaf said that Imran Khan cancelled his participation as it includes the ‘The Satanic Verses’ author Salman Rushdie who has caused ‘immeasurable hurt to Muslims across the globe’.
In January this year Rushdie was forced to withdraw himself from the Jaipur literary festival after violent protests by the Muslim groups in India.
The 64-year-old, Indian born author, Salman Rushdie may speak at the India Today conclave in Delhi on Friday on ‘The Liberty Verses’.
The controversial 1988 novel ‘The Satanic Verses’ is banned in India and Pakistan and Muslim groups alleged Salman for mocking Islam and the holy Quran.
