Apple, on Monday, announced the iPhone SE at their headquarters In Cupertino. In an event that had many eyes on it, Apple launched the iPhone SE, which is essentially an iPhone 6s in an iPhone 5s’s body in a smaller and compactor form factor.
The new iPhone sports a 4 inch retina display and is powered by the new A9 chipset coupled with the M9 motion coprocessor. As always Apple hasn’t reveled the official RAM used, but it is assumed to be 2 GB. The new iPhone again comes with the 16 GB memory base variant along with a higher end 64 GB variants.
The new iPhone SE has gained the new 12 MP iSight camera from iPhone 6s. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel FaceTime camera with Retina Flash, similar to the 6s. There is a support for Live Photos and 4K video recording capability in the rear camera. Furthermore, the connectivity options include 4G LTE supports, VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, etc. The iPhone SE runs on iOS 9.3.
The iPhone SE will be available in space grey, rose gold, gold and silver color variants. The rose gold has been borrowed from the 6s. The iPhone SE looks identical to iPhone 5s on the exterior, but the new smartphone has been given a matte finish. The iPhone SE supports “Hey Siri” which is like “Ok Google”, which in essence is an always on-personal assistant.
The iPhone SE is priced at $399 for the 16 GB base variant, while the 64 GB variant is priced at $499 i.e. Rs. 39,000.
Pre-orders for the new iPhones start from March 24 onwards and it will go on sale on March 31. It will be available in 100 countries by the end of May.
