Current Chief economic adviser to the government, Raghuram Rajan has emerged as the frontrunner to be the next governor of Reserve Bank of India.
Present RBI governor D Subbarao is stepping down on September 5 and reportedly Finance Minister P Chidambaram wants to see Raghuram Rajan in that post.
Although the 50-year-old Raghuraman Rajan, the former IMF chief economist is leading the queue, but economic affairs secretary Arvind Mayaram has been seen as the close second choice for government if Rajan doesn’t make it. Sebi chief U K Sinha is reportedly the third choice.
