According to the latest report of finance ministry, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has successfully able to convince nearly 7 crore people to open their bank account since August 29 and government was managed accumulate over Rs 5,000 crore into the banking system, a large part of the money which was mostly kept at their homes or in their piggybanks.
Taking a cue from a official in the finance ministry, the Times of India wrote, “Latest data collated by the finance ministry showed that on November 3, 6.98 crore bank accounts had been opened across the country, with Rs 5,300 crore parked in them. Just a tad under 4 crore RuPay cards had been issued to these account holders, with the remaining expected to get the ATM card over the next few weeks.”
Earlier government set the target of opening 7.5 crore bank accounts in the current financial year, but after seeing the overwhelming response, now government was looking forward to achieve the target of opening 7.5 crore bank accounts before January 26, 2015.
