After a long time being shelved the film adaptation of Gregory David Robert’s Shantaram is back on track. Joel Edgarton, of The Great Gatsby fame lately, is in talks to portray the lead Lin Ford in the film as per the Deadline reports.
The history about the project goes back to 2004 when Warner Brothers dropped 2million USD for the rights of the book. Johnny Depp was to star with Peter Heir donning the directorial hat. After that, the film has been shelved for years before it was brought to light again by initiation of Depp himself. The film will be produced by Infitum Nihil, the company found by Depp, Christi Dembrowski and Graham King.
The lead character Of Lin revolves from being heroin addict to escaped con to mafia and in course repelling Russian invaders from Afghanistan teaming up with Afghan freedom fighters – is one of the most sought after character of the world.
The screenplay was written by Eric Roth. Roth won an Oscar for adapting Forrest Gump. He was also nominated for Oscar for the scripts of The Insider, Munich and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Warner is still on to find someone to give the director hat. The chances to retain Peter Heir as the same remain high. The film will go to floor anytime next year
