Be it Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella, each and every one of us had a favourite Disney story growing up go. With time, our favourites might have changed but the magical thread woven by Disney has not ragged even a bit. What started out as a small company is now one of the biggest brands in the world. As their company grew, so did the movies that they gifted children and adults alike. But as if the animated extravaganza was not enough to get lost into, Disney have now decided to venture into the live action world. Who wouldn’t enjoy seeing their beloved animated characters coming to life on screen? But will Disney be able to do justice to the animated world? Take a look at the movies whose live action adaptation is planned and decide for yourself. But if there is one thing we know about Disney, it is that it will not fail us in helping escape reality and giving us a world to lose our selves in.
1. Beauty and the Beast
The classic Disney tale is already half way into making, with its teaser trailer already looking exquisite. Bringing to life such iconic characters is indeed a task, therefore, the production house had to make all the right decisions when it came to the castings, and it looks like they have. When it was revealed that Emma Watson will be stepping in the shoes of Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast, fans were sent into frenzy. Soon, the rest of the characters were also finalised. Recreating the magic for the big screen once again can indeed be a challenge but things look very good right now. After all,’ it’s a tale as old as time, a song as old as rhyme’.
2. Mulan
In a world were feminists are finally being heard, Mulan can serve as an inspiration. The story of a dedicated and determined girl dressing up as a man to fight the invading forces to finally save the day is a story that needs to be brought to life in today’s world. Though the project is still under development, the news that one of the bravest princesses ever is getting her own live action adaption is as uplifting a news as it can get. And did I mention, it’s the princess that saves the prince and the world as well!
3. Winnie the Pooh
Everybody’s favourite honey eating yellow bear is all set to make his live action debut. We all grew up listening to the tales of his and Piglets adventures, basking in the optimism that he spread and not to forget, many of us took up eating honey hoping to be as cute as this loveable bear. Out of all the characters on this list, he is the only non-person main character and that is what stands out for him. Like a few other movies on the list, the project is still under development. But we hope they take their sweet time and deliver a classic Disney experience. After all, we are talking about a bear that can rock crop tops better than many of us!
4. The Little Mermaid
Oh the good old times. Bringing this tale to life will be one of the most challenging things for the studio unless they decide to alter the stories (praying extensively that that doesn’t happen). This tale takes us back to the days when the villain was just as iconic or maybe even more, than the leads of the story. Adapting the wonderful undersea world for the live action adaptation while keeping each characters quirkiness and uniqueness intact is definitely an uphill challenge for the studio. Once again, the project is still been worked on and nothing has been made public yet. But ever since fans have been made aware of this project, they have come up with a list of actresses who are perfect to play the redheaded mermaid. This list is topped by Ariana Grande and Anna Kendrick. Surprisingly, no one could visualise someone bringing life to Ursula. It looks like this good old fashioned villain was so good at being bad that we cannot possibly think of a replacement here.
