Four Shows to watch in February

Between the fourth season of Sherlock and shows like A Series of Unfortunate Events, January was a gratifying kick-off to the year for TV show lovers. The streak seems to be continuing as there February has a bunch of great new and returning shows to offer the viewers. Here are the 4 shows that we think you should check out this month:

Legion

With Marvel Studios and DC churning out countless comic-book based TV shows one after the other, it was only a matter of time before the X-men franchise joined the game. Produced by FX in association with Marvel Television and 26 Keys Production, Legion is a psychological sci-fi thriller series based on characters from the X-Men comics. The series is created by Noah Hawley, who is known for developing FX’s acclaimed crime-drama, Fargo. Legion stars Dan Stevens as David Haller, the mutant son of Charles Xavier diagnosed with schizophrenia, who discovers that he has telepathic powers. Stevens is accompanied by a cast comprising the likes of Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, Bill Irwin, and Jean Smart. Early reviews for the premiere are extremely positive. That combined with Noah Hawley and Fox’s reputation make Legion a show worth checking out whether or not you enjoy superhero shows.

Legion will premiere on February 8th and the first season will comprise of 8 episodes.

Big Little Lies

Big Little Lies is an upcoming drama/dark-comedy produced for HBO adapted from a book of the same name written by Liane Moriarty. The miniseries is created by David E. Kelly who is popular for creating shows such as Picket Fences and Boston Legal. The show’s plot will revolve around three mothers who are somehow tied with a murder. HBO dramas are known for their superior quality and rarely disappoint viewers. In addition to that, Big Little Lies features a star studded cast consisting of Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgård, and Adam Scott. Given its credentials, the seven-episode series can be expected to be a winner when it airs later this month.

Big Little Lies will premiere on February 19th.

Powerless
Much to the delight of the genre’s fans, Legion is not the only comic-book show premiering this February. Following the success of their many TV adaptations, DC is bringing out another show albeit a different one. Powerless is a sitcom developed for NBC by Ben Queen. The series will revolve around the employees of Wayne Security (Yes, as in Bruce Wayne), a firm trying to make the world of super-humans a better place for commoners. Vanessa Hudgens stars as the show’s lead, Emily Locke, and is accompanied by a popular cast including Community’s Danny Pudi, Ron Funches, Christina Kirk, and Alan Tudyk as Van Wayne, Bruce Wayne a.k.a Batman’s cousin. Powerless is a milestone for superhero shows and movies as it is the first sitcom made in the genre. Viewers will find out whether or not it is a good sitcom as the show progresses.

Powerless premiered on February 2nd.

Billions: Season Two
Billions was an ambitious show that aired on Showtime last year. Created by Brian Koppelman, David Levien, and Andrew Ross Sorkin, the show is a legal drama that explored the rivalry between Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis), a rich, corrupt hedge fund manager, and Charles Rhoades Jr(Paul Giamatti), an attorney trying to bring Axelrod in front of justice. Billions received positive feedbacks from viewers and critics alike and was praised for the cast’s stellar performances. Though the show failed to score the rave reviews it had aimed for, Billions managed to garner wide appeal from viewers and fans are excited for Axe and Chuck to make their return. Hopefully, Billions will step up its game and deliver a second season better than its first.

Season two of Billions will premiere on February 19th.

About Nisanth Suresh

I’m a Commerce student hailing from a small town in Ernakulam, Kerala. I am something of a cinephile, enjoy reading comics and fictional novels in my free time. I fell in love with TV shows after discovering the classic sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S when I was 13 years old. Over several years and a load of other shows, I discovered the strength of television as a medium for long-term, compelling story-telling. What started out as a leisure time hobby is now a passion and I’m always in search of great new shows to watch. I never miss out on opportunities to discuss about the shows that I love and hate and now utilize my position at SpectralHues to share my views with the rest of you.
