“My Old Classmate” – A Sleeper Chinese Hit This Summer

Campus romances are always eye-candy. And, this time, Frant Gwo’s “My Old Classmate” has hit the right chord with Chinese audiences. One of the most cliché themes – campus romance was made to feel as fresh as a mint-water.

With the characteristically cute and melodramatic, the film manages to spur sentiments of the “post 80s” generation. The love story spans across two decades on screen.

Grossing above 50 million USD, the movie has become one of the biggest hit of the season. The film also poses promising for other Chinese speaking countries like Taiwan and Singapore.
