Movie Review: Kahaani

Kahaani is a decent and excellent Bollywood thriller backs by a strong story. Kahaani keeps the viewers connected from the very beginning till the climax.

Kahaani is the story of a seven months pregnant woman Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan), who is searching for her missing husband in Kolkata, coming from London. In the city of joy she is looking for her husband alone banking on her sharp memories. Though at first it seems like a routine investigating story but soon the film unfolds, things take a drastic turn and we realize that the film is going to multiple dimensions and layers of mystery.

The neat storytelling keeps viewers glue to the seats without losing a single moment. The climax of Kahaani is spellbound. Kahaani is a complete female-centric movie and Vidya Balan has successfully brought justice into it. Her flawless performance along with Advaita Kala’s powerful script, Sujoy Ghosh’s neat direction, and a dose of dark humour makes Kahaani a successful.

Namrata Raos’s editing, Setu’s Cinematography and Sujoy Ghosh’s hand captured Kolkata in flamboyance and elegance. Kolkata ‘s early morning, waking up, taking tea, typical taxi,  Kolkata evening, rocky  tram, smooth metro, Kolkata’s durga puja, farewell to the Durga maa, mocambo restaurant and of course Amitabh Bachchan’s tribute to Rabindra sangeet ‘Ekla Chalo Re’. Vishal-Shekhar’s music was also highlight of the movie.

After Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan again proved that she is the ‘hero’ of bollywood at the moment. She again impressed her with this female centric role in Kahaani. Parambrata Chatterjee is perfect, Nawazuddin plays a crucial role as IB officer and did wonderful job. As expected Dhritiman Chatterjee delivered a vintage performance. Actor Saswata Chatterjee was surprise element of the movie and one would instantly love his character. Indraneil Sengupta was also good in his cameo.

Kahaani, is definitely Sujoy Ghosh’s best work till date.  He deserves applauds from all of us. His finesse in telling story was responsible for the success of the movie.

All in all Kahaani is a wonderful watching experience and one must watch it.

About Sprightly Spirit

“I dare do all that may become a man. Who dares more is none”. And all, may be. It may be the vigor. Or the spirit. Or the courage to avoid being “politically correct” or bent. And, ban all averse with immaculate overture of graciously fathomable words firm in views. Subtle. Justifying the undying conscience. Values. Knowledge. And, dares to stay true. True to own. True to the world. And, to the words. With a dream in eyes it exists. In you. In me. In all. The sprite that never shies away. The spirit that never dies!
