‘Cocktail’ is an above average romantic movie revolved around three different people Gautam (Saif Ali Khan), Veronica (Deepika Padukone), Meera (Diana Penty). It is like an old wine in a new bottle with refreshing music and situations or to say old ‘cocktail’ in new bottle!
The story line is same old love triangle: A boy and girl loves each other, enters girl’s best friend into scene, the boy falls for the best friend, girl’s best friend also fell in love with the boy and best friend sacrifices her love for girl. For readers’ sake I am not mentioning who is the girl and who is the best friend but obviously one can assume who the boy is. Actually Homi Adajania’s latest directorial venture is all about that only.
The second half of the movie is bit tedious with high dosage is emotions and melodrama. Homi Adajania could have edited some parts of it it’s too stretched.
Deepika Padukone’s performance as Veronica is her best acting so far I have seen. Saif Khan was okay, but his age was showing up on screen, his desperate act to look like ‘cool’ was in some place looking very artificial. However his timing was perfect and therefore audience can connect. Diana Penty will surprise lots of people with her powerful acting. She is a girl to watch!
Songs of the movie are good and hooked with the audience. Pritam has done a great job, especially the “Tumhi Ho Bandhu” song.
Anil Mehta’s cinematography is impeccable and Director Homi Adajania’s direction was very good. He did handle the ‘love triangle’ very well.
All in all it’s an above average movie, one can enjoy watching it.
