Sapna Pabbi, who made her Bollywood debut with Khamoshiyan and is currently shooting for the popular television reality show 24 on Colors, will be seen playing a challenging role in the Indian adaptation of the Oscar winning docu-drama ‘Born Into Brothels’.
The 2004 Academy Award winning Indian-American docu-drama about the children of prostitutes in Kolkata’s red light area, Sonagachi, Born Into Brothels, is being officially adapted as a film and is set to roll in March.
Along with Sapna, Seema Biswas and Divya Dutta have also been roped in and will interact with real-life prostitutes and their children who were part of the original, written and directed by Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman. The film, which will portray their lives as is today, will be directed by Arup Dutta.
Sapna will be leaving for Kolkata soon to spend time with the girl whose life she shall be portraying in the movie. “She was a part of the documentary and is all grown up now. It’s a dark film but also very real and a lovely take on the children of prostitutes who get no respect from society or their own families,” says Sapna.
