The Bombay High Court has agreed to hear a petition seeking explanation why Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has been given a special treatment by the Maharashtra government and awarded him with repeated parole. The PIL questions the grounds on which the government granting parole to the actor.
HC will hear the petition on February 25.
Meanwhile the union home ministry has sought report from the Maharashtra government over the repeated parole given to Sanjay Dutt. The Maharashtra government now has to explain why they have been given special privilege to him. Sanjay Dutt got parole thrice in last nine months and since December 21 he is out on parole. He was supposed to go back to Pune’s Yerawada Jail on February 21, but the authorities have extended his parole till March 21 on actor’s request.
Congress leader Priya Dutt’s brother Sanjay Dutt has been serving his six-year jail term. He is convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case for possessing illegal weapons. While 54-year-old actor has been treated with favours, the 70-year-old Zaibunissa Kazi, another convict in the 1993 blasts case, has been repeatedly denied paroles.
Strangely the actor was granted parole due to his wife Manyata’s ill health, but Manyata has been spotting partying and attending functions regularly.
Although the Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said, “The law is same for all,” but we doubt the conviction and motive behind action.
