The 91-year-old Dilip Kumar has been admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday after the actor complained of chest pain and nausea. He is now stable.
“Dilip Kumar was suffering from viral fever on September 13. Since he was complaining of discomfort, we brought him to the hospital as a precaution,” his wife Saira Banu said.
Dilip Kumar, popularly known as the ‘Tragedy King’ started his acting career in 1944 with Bombay Talkies’ Jwar Bhata. He has acted in more than 60 films in his six decades of career and received numerous rewards and success. He was the first actor to receive a Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1954 and still owns the record of receiving most number of Filmfare awards (8) in the same category.
Some of his popular films were: Andaz , Aan, Devdas,Azaad,Mughal-e-Azam, Ganga Jamuna, Madhumati , Ram Aur Shyam and Shakti.
He had received Padma Bhushan award in 1991 and was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his contributions towards Indian cinema. The Government of India had also nominated him to Rajya Sabha.
