Anurag Kashyap’s realistic and societal films are always there to make an indelible and enduring mark in the minds and hearts of practicality lovers.
The followers of his patterned films have held breathes for his next release Ugly. Much speculations hovering over the flick, Ugly is the concluding release of the year 2014 unfolding its wraps during Christmas fest.
Initially, the film was planned to be released in mid of 2013, but some petty controversial issues were not ready to leave Anurag free to release the movie. After a long term combat with censor board, Anurag backed off and finalized the release on 26 Dec, 2014. Anurag is of the view that the statutory warning- ‘Smoking is injurious to health’ should not be inserted whenever the character is shown smoking in the film. He considers that this issue comes under the Health Ministry and films should not be used as a medium for such awareness and advertisement purpose.
Though he has lost this battle yet hasn’t given up on this issue, and will continue fighting in order to change the rule. He says, “I am not giving up on the issue, but I had to compromise. I didn`t want the film to suffer. What happened to my film Paanch, I didn`t want the same thing to happen to this film. I want to release the film for my actors who have given their time. But it is not that I will be quiet and give up.”
Talking about the film, Ugly was screened at the Director`s Fortnight Section during the Cannes Film Festival 2013 and received great acclamations.
The film is much in buzz because it is said to be inspired from Anurag’s life itself, and also showcases some of his real life situations exhibiting the darker side of his past life.
The most skilled director affirms, “It is my most brutally honest film and I did exactly the way I wanted to. It`s a dark, emotional roller coaster and there is no way it won`t work!” By saying this, he has truly created a mystic excitement around the release of the film. After some of his proficient and successful master works like Black Friday, Dev D and Gangs Of Wasseypur 1 and 2, authenticity of Ugly is all set to grab the minds of audiences by showing the various shades of ever changing and thrilling spectrums of life.
So, be ready to witness it for the first time ever, as bewitching Ugly releases on Dec 26 2014.
