The journey he goes through to reach himself is the stage for Tamasha. It’s a personal journey – passionate and quirky – that dismantles his life so that he can become how she sees him – the exuberant story-teller.
At least the rough sketch of Tamasha’s concept presented by Imtiaz Ali seems quite splendid and impressive; although, the film’s release this or maybe next year will probably decide its fate.
Tamasha is all about the journey of a person who has lost his self-identity to the societal norms; with its central theme being “abrasion and loss of self” that occurs when behaving in a socially desirable manner and trying to fit in the society patterns. “You meet a certain person and you are very enchanted by him. He is free flowing and your type and then you lose touch… Years later when you meet, he is absolutely somebody else,” Ali told PTI.
In the movie, Ranbir is going to play the character that is smitten with the stories, has grown up listening to them and expresses himself by performing them.
“It is about not fitting in and this comes through a very personal story of these two people. What ‘Tamasha’ is trying to say is that don’t be satisfied with the stories you hear around you, create your own myth, choose your own story,” said the director.
Given the wary spectators are always busy keeping a close check on the celebrities; Ranbir and Deepika’s collaboration has always made it up to the headlines. But Imtiaz has got his own views and thinks that audiences don’t come to theatres to view sensationalism.
“Individually, they were very suited to the role and they are very good actors. They are my friends. Ranbir as an actor is moving towards purity and it is exciting to work with him because he is so interested in his craft.
“I always thought that Deepika was a special actress. I have seen a big change in her post ‘Love Aaj Kal’. Earlier, she wanted to remain hidden as she is a very shy person but now she is too involved in being the character to care about the attention.”
While his last year’s venture Highway was very well acclaimed, the director says that he got to learn a lot many things during Highway which are now turning useful during Tamasha. “‘Highway’ taught me that you have to concentrate on the very basic of what you are doing and not worry about the decorations, technique and shot-taking. They come later. In ‘Highway’, there was always last minute learning and I am carrying forward that process in ‘Tamasha’.”
With Delhi shootings over, the next schedule is planned in Shimla; howbeit, release dates will only be confirmed after wrap up.
Now that the movie has been creating such a high buzz percentage, it is surely going to be exciting to watch the trio’s efforts creating magic on screen.
