Banning things and activities seems to have become a latest trend in India; beef and maggi noodles vanished from the plates and now, something from the screens of electronic gadgets has disappeared as pornography got banned very recently. Everyone, undoubtedly, had their own opinions in this ‘personal invasion’ imposed by government, which they expressed through various forms of social media. Amidst all this, how can our feisty Bollywood celebs stay back? Even they took to twitter to pourn in their thoughts:
- Sonam Kapoor— The fashion diva says it with this witty tweet, “Ban idiots who think banning things is going to make a difference to Indian mentality.. #sooverthisgov #NextBanIdea #sick #ashamed”
- Citylights director Hansal Mehta used govt. law as a tool to put forth his thoughts, he said, “Dear govt of India. Abolish Article 21 and shut those who say your ban on porn is unconstitutional. ? ????? ???? ? ????? ???????.”
- Music artist Vishal Dadlani too had a stand on this, “Child-porn should be banned & punishable by strictest legal sentences. But blanket-bans are stupid, ignorant & dangerous!”
- Writer Chetan Bhagat very well quoted himself on twitter, “Porn ban is anti-freedom, impractical, not enforceable. Politically not very smart too. Avoidable. Let’s not manage people’s private lives,” “Don’t ban porn. Ban men ogling, leering, brushing past, groping, molesting, abusing, humiliating and raping women. Ban non-consent. Not sex.”
- Actor-producer Uday Chopra sees two sides of the coins. He tweeted, “So India bans porn. Will this decision lower the cases of sexual violence or increase it. I wonder.”
While some sensible tweets were rushing in, twitter’s controversial, irksome boss, KRK again showed his colors. As a reply to Sonam’s tweet, he said, “So @sonamakapoor is against #PornBan means she is watching porn films everyday. Lol! Sonam Ji Ki Jai Ho.”
If this wasn’t enough, he pulled Sunny Leone in the scene digging out her past. “I thanks to @narendramodi Ji n his government for #PornBan Now I request govt to take legal action against porn star @SunnyLeone”
“Govt has banned porn but govt didn’t close Leone’s porn website SunnyLeone.com Lol! Funny things are happening in BJP’s government,” he added. By now, almost everyone has got used to these annoying tweets of his which have become quite synonymous with his name.
While it is still a debatable topic, no one is sure whether it was a right decision or not. Speaking about the ill effects of porn sites is correct, but immediately the next question that arises is of personal liberty and choice. So, everyone is flummoxed about which side to support!
