Queen of small screen Ekta Kapoor and king of big screen Karan Johar’s plan to work together got derailed as their first joint production, Badtameez Dil, ran into several problems including the lead casts Emraan Hashmi and Kareena Kapoor opted out of the film last. However, the latest news from B-town suggests that Badtameez Dil is now back on track and the shooting will begin from this September.
Based on the William Makepeace Thackeray’s critically acclaimed novel Vanity Fair, Badtameez Dil will be directed by debutant Akshay Roy. Earlier the same novel adapted into film by Mira Nair in which Reese Witherspoon plays famous Becky Sharp.
“Till last year, the plan was to re-imagine the basic plot in the book, but now the script has gone through extensive development and tightening and has been substantially Bollywoodised,” said the film’s co-producer Tanuj Garg.
A daily quoted a source by saying, “An early draft based on the book was ready last year but the film has now gone back to the writing board and as we speak the script is being given the finishing touches. The initial idea stems from the novel and the social dynamics are inspired from the book, but now the setting has become contemporary Delhi. It is a story of two manipulative people who cross each other’s path on their way up the social ladder.”
The film is scheduled to release in early 2015.
