The seven Harry Potter e-books – said to be compatible with all major e-book readers like Kindle (Amazon), Reader (Sony) and i-Pad (Apple) – have been expected to be available only through the online portal Pottermore from this month. According to ‘Pottermore’, the e-books are now likely to be launched anytime between January and June 2012.
The website Pottermore has been offering an online Harry Potter community, a digital encyclopedia of Potter-related trivia, and role-playing games for millions of Potter fans. The site was launched in July 2011 and has over a million members. While membership of the portal has been restricted so far to the members chosen through a competition held online – a move most possibly calculated to whip up frenzied curiosity – the registration is going to be thrown open to everyone by the end of this month.
The Harry Potter books – in the physical format – are said to have sold over 450 million copies and their availability in the e-book format is expected to raise this figure to even more impressive, unprecedented levels.
