Well known American writer Laurie Halse Anderson once said that “Censorship is the child of fear and the father of ignorance.” Yeah, absolutely true! Still we are facing same old issue of “culture war”, “hurting someone’s sentiment” or “religious intolerance” through the pages of a book, and thus come burning it, banning it and even jailing the writer. I thought in this era, after the pandemic, we will be more tolerant and little bit of humble in understanding other’s sentiment. But, no, we are still living the same old world where rule breakers are to be banned; rebels are to be marginalized and different views and opinions to be suppressed. So we have seen outright bans to books in libraries, censorship of books and brutal book-burning.
Not surprisingly most books which faced bans, or challenge in publishing or distributing, feature LGBTQ+ themes or LGBTQ+ characters, and books on race and racism.
There must be some books which we needed to read and may never get chance to read. It should be on readers or individual to choose and reject the book. I thought we were adult enough to take decision for ourselves whether or not to read each title
