Shiva trilogy author Amish Tripathi has recently signed 5 crore deal with Westland publishers for his next series.
This is one of the biggest advance payments for any Indian author by any Indian publishing house.
“We made the deal based on Amish’s sales record,” said Gautam Padmanabhan, CEO of Westland. “It’s a pre-emptive bid of Rs 5 crore for the book, audio and e-publishing rights to his next series for the south-Asian region. It’s the largest advance we’ve ever paid, and the largest Indian deal.”
Amish’s latest book, the final installment of Shiva Trilogy, “The Oath of Vayuputras” sold over 5 lakhs copies within 2 days after its release.
“It’s been a crazy last few days,” Amish told during book-launch event.
“Amish’s advance is only for the south-Asian rights, which means it could turn into a $4 million deal by the time we finish with film, foreign and translation rights,” said Amish’s agent Anuj Bahri of Red Ink Literary Agency.
The Shiva Trilogy becomes “one of the most successful book series in the history of Indian publishing”as the first 2 books of the trilogy, The Immortals of Meluha and The Secret of the Nagas have sold over 1 million copies.
