Obstinacy – The Dauntless Chase by Dhishna Radhay – A Review

Cleopatra. The name itself brings the image of beauty. Will. Power. And, mysticism.  With a pinch of French flavor, our debutant writer Dhishna Radhay, brings forth her heroine Cléopâtre Lamaure. Strong-headed, strong – willed. A fighter. And, a survivor. Though the graphic cover and the hard-to-hit cover name provides a different imagery altogether – the author nurtured a character driven plot and attempted a realistic approach towards it.

Cleo. The name comes with a baggage. It makes you imagine the known figure of the original character. All the traits come inbuilt. And, the author very intelligently imbibed the traits in her own protagonist. The establishment of the character was half-done with the naming only. But, with a blend so powerful – comes the mighty responsibility of carrying the weight-age till very end. And, as per the characterization goes – the author is successful.

Cléopâtre. Stevie – the French architect. I wonder if the author intentionally brought some French flavor to the story. May be coincidental – but at some of time, does our protagonist resembles Massenet’s Cléopâtre? Does our author imbibed Marc-Antoine in Stevie? May be or maybe not. The tremendous lust is not here. The yellow jealousy is not here. But the love is here. The coming back is here.

There is suffering. There is fighting. There is emotion. But there is no drama. There are situations. But there are no moments. There are tears. But there is no crying. And, there is Cleopatra. But there is no mysticism. The author has successfully blended the spices – but she has faultily kept the food half-boiled.

But the attempt was heavy. If the character is an inspiration to many girls – the author is also an inspiration for many aspirants in this field. She used lucid words and a heartwarming narrative. She went overboard with her few but strong characters. And, she obviously scripted some astounding flavor into it. And, she deserves accolades for that.
