Book Review: Hidden Letters

Nothing’s gonna change my love for you
You ought to know by now how much I love you

Hidden letters by Purba Chakraborty bestows those ever-enchanting words of George Benson as one moves through the pages of life as it is experienced by Anaya, Nishith and Varsha with their saccharine tripartite love story and its consequential sacrifice, catharsis as suffered by each of them at their different instances of life.

the-hidden-lettersThe story revolves round the life of Anaya; bereft of any parental love, she finds fraternal care and comfort from her distant cousin Varsha. The story speaks of Nishith, Varsha’s childhood friend and Anaya’s adolescence crush. How does an embarrassing misunderstanding occurs among the three good buddies that are tantamount to misinterpret flow of emotion leading to the sudden demise of `priceless friendship’? Nishith, who was terribly in love with his childhood partner Varsha unintentionally proposes to Anaya, and Varsha deals the entire situation at it’s face value without giving a second thought , as she believes that Nishith is no more than a `just a best friend’ of her. In due course of time Nishith marries Anaya despite his apathy but with the passage of time falls in love with the care and self-less adoration of his wife Anaya.

Again to add new twist and turns the author makes Varsha to realize her deep rooted ‘unexplored’ love for Nishith and that too after her marriage which instigates her to write letters to Nishith; How Anaya keeps these letters hidden from her beloved husband with a sheer feeling of guilt and insecurity and tries to reveal those `lovable catharsis’ in a book after many years of her successful literary career creates a perfect climax of the story.

Love makes one blind but no love is as serene as eternal self-love. The author tries to portray the sanctity of humanity through Anaya, as she does the perfect role of a friend, wife, mother and last of all of a genuine human being . Love cannot be accomplished by force and it can only be felt through self-sacrifice, complete devotion and trust and that is what one can see through the life of Anaya. Varsha displays a tragic character, as she misunderstands her the then ‘true’ love for Nishith, suffers an unsuccessful marriage and thereafter becomes bereaved of every materialistic and emotional happiness. Nishith here falls vindictive of many uncanny emotions, as he does not get his long cherished love from Varsha yet he fulfills his desired conjugal happiness from his wife ‘Anaya’.

Thus ‘hidden letters’ is a must read book for every youngsters as it rightly sets a proper ambiance of a tripartite love story without any display of covetousness or animosity from any of it’s underlying characters. It paves the path how a serene love surpasses all the underlying hurdles and emotional tussles of life and brings immortal eternity in this world of uncanny hostility contemplating that one should always remain true to his/her pious soul.
