So Chetan Bhagat or say Flipkart comes up with a whole new level of advertising the book ‘Half Girlfriend’ by announcing it on the front page of TOI. A good attempt to gain instant attention.
The advertisement impressed me and made me want to read it as soon as it released.
And the review goes something like this:
Half Girlfriend is just another Chetan Bhagat book !
It begins with the typical story of a girl and a guy in college. Madhav is from a village who cannot speak English and Riya is from a high end background in Delhi. And somehow they fall in love. But Riya agrees to be only his ‘half girlfriend’ A little less than girlfriend and a little more than just friends. Now that the secret behind the title is revealed, the story takes you to an altogether different angle in the second half.
Apart from the college campus, you will witness some parts of Bihar, which has been depicted to be backward and alien to the English language (with a lot of controversies doing the rounds already against this false depiction). And then to your surprise there is a part of New York as well.
Who is in New York? Where is Riya? Why did Madhav go back to Bihar? Riya said she only had a few months to survive? Is she dead? How will Madhav overcome this fact?
Though there isn’t much of a curiosity that develops while reading the book, if you are a fan, you might just like it. The language is too simple, the reason being Chetan Bhagat wants more people to ‘read books’.
