Lately, Dublin has emerged as one of the top choices for advanced education, especially for Indian students. Of course, keeping up with the adage ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull toy’, it’s imperative to make the most of your stay. Nicknamed as ‘vegan-friendly’ (considering the plethora of vegan fare that the city outlets have to offer) and a ‘pro-pedestrian’ city, Dublin or Bailé Atha Cliath is home to a rich and vibrant history, making it one of the happiest places to reside in.
Boasting of immense grandiosity
As an international student here, I bring to you the top places that made me fall for this city-
Dublin Castle: The magnificent architecture says it all- Quite resplendent, it symbolised the seat of British power in Ireland until the nation’s independence.
Parks: St. Stephen’s Green/Merrion Square/Phoenix- Small yet luscious, the parks in and around Dublin make the city quite pollution-free and habitable.
O’Connell-Henry Street: Just one term, it’s a shopping haven. The Millenium Spire that can be viewed from any corner of the streets is said to be a landmark. In case you’re lost, you can go to the Spire and find your way back.
Ha’penny/Millenium Bridges: A series of parallel bridges connecting the city and the southern parts of the capital.
Guinness Storehouse: This should predominantly be on the list. A must-visit Irish favourite that stores gallons of Guinness, the local ale.
Temple Bar: A very lively street bustling of life and fervour. It houses the very best of traditional Irish pubs with the best of cuisines and performances.
Dundrum mall: This is something any Indian would relate to- A mall packed with people! It actually was a couple of weeks later since arrival when I discovered this place, and oh boy, this place is the one-stop destination for all your needs.
Trinity College and College Green: Probably the most notable institute in the whole of Ireland, College Green was named so after the widespread reputation of the college that is dubbed as the ‘University of Dublin’.
Grafton Street: Another lively street, it houses the best of stores. Consider yourself lucky if you come across notable performers.
Christ Church & St. Patrick’s Cathedral: Ireland follows Roman Catholicism and St. Patrick is a stalwart in the history of the nation. The cathedrals and chapels are sites to behold.
Visit this ‘Land of Giants’ yourself and see what’s more in store for you! Until then, slainté- The Irish equivalent for cheers!
