Nagaland is located on the north east side of India. Its border touches Assam on the west, Myanmar on the east and Manipur on the north. Its mostly mountainous and is one of the smallest states on India. It comprises of eleven districts Kohima, Phek, Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto, Tuensang, Mon, Dimapur, Kiphire, Longleng and Peren. Nagaland is blessed with beautiful flora and fauna. Almost 1/6 of Nagaland is covered with tropical and subtropical forest. Agriculture is the main occupation of the NAGAS (the tribal people of Nagaland).
Apart from the natural beauty Nagaland is also known for different tribe. There are of total 16 different tribe having their own culture, costume and tradition. Each tribe has their own festival according to their culture, which majorly revolve around agriculture and are celebrated through out the year.
Kohima, the city on hill, the capital of Nagaland is a beautiful hill station. There are many amazingly interesting places to visit in Kohima. It gives the tourists the peek a boo to the hospitable Nagas and their culture. There are many small local markets, fields and hills to visit. One of the hotspot here is The Kohima War Cemetery built in remembrance of the soliders who fought and died against the Japanese during the World War II.
25m above the sea level and 20km away from Kohima is the Dzukou valley famous for being the flower valley. You can find variety of flowers, herbs, shrubs grown here making it a beautiful and picturesque destination.
Saramati Peak( Highest peak) and Japfu Peak(second highest peak) are very famous and best trekking ranges. A must cisit for all the adventure lovers.
Other places attracting the attention of tourist are Dimapur, Khonoma green village, Intaki wildlife sanctuary, Phek, Ghosu bird sanctuary and Doyang River.
Traditional food in Nagaland mainly comprises of meat, fish and rice. Naga food is spicy and use ginger and garlic for flavor and aroma.
October to May is the best time to visit this beautiful small state.
