Remember the Transformer Book Trio?
It was a computer by Asus that could function as both a laptop and tablet. Apart from that it could also dual boot between Windows 8 and Android.
The company now has announced a new version with a similar mission. It’s the Transformer Book Duet TD300, a convertible laptop / tablet hybrid that can dual boot between Windows 8.1 and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The new Asus model looks sleek & on the go. Its 13.3-inch multi-touch display features a solid 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. That 13.3-inch form factor makes Asus’ new model a bit bigger than the older Transformer Book Trio.
It features a full Intel Core i7 processor, 4GB of RAM, and an interesting storage scheme. The tablet has a 128 GB SSD, while the laptop dock adds another 1TB of hard drive storage. Unfortunately, those laptop roots have also led to a larger machine — the Transformer Book Duet weighs in at about 4.1 pounds, more than most ultra books. The tablet portion itself is also thicker than most — it’s about half an inch thick. That’s about the same as the Surface Pro 2, but noticeably thicker than the Surface 2 and most standard Android tablets.
There’s a one-touch button that Asus claims will let you instantly switch between the two operating systems regardless of whether you’re using the device as a tablet or a laptop. The switch will take about four seconds to operate. While that’ll be handy for those who like to switch back and forth on a whim.
Asus has priced it at $599. Though it looks affordable it is yet to see how the transformer book performs. The launch date is still awaited.
