It seems Pranab Mukherjee all the way for India’s 13th president, at least for now till any strong candidature will emerge into the picture!
Pranab Mukherjee, who is fondly called Pranab Da in Indian politics, is congress’s probable choices for Rashtrapati Bhawan. Current president Pratibha Devisingh Patil’s tenure will come to end on 25th July 2012.
Surprisingly on Monday BJP MP Yashwant Sinha by breaking his party line and strongly supports Pranab Mukherjee as President. “Mukherjee will make a very good president,” Sinha said.
BJP may not agree with Sinha and put their own candidate for the post of president. It seems India is going to see a fight for presidential post as leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj has recently briefed media about BJP’s position for this presidential election. She has rejected any Congress nominee including Pranab Mukherjee. Also BJP has rejected Vice-President Hamid Ansari’s nomination.
Earlier Samajwadi Party, TMC and NCP said they will support any non-politician in the post of President.
Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam emerged as the front runner. Name of Narayan Krishnamurthy, Ratan Tata was also surfacing for the post.
But now when Congress played the master stroke and finance minister Pranab Mukherjee’s name is emerging strongly in the political erena, it is going to be very interesting to see how political parties will stand.
DMK lauds Pranab Mukherjee and already extended their support for him. BJP led NDA yet to finalize their candidature. Will Pranab Babu able to generate supports from all quarters?
