We’ve heard the phrases “Size doesn’t matter” and “color doesn’t matter” what they both mean is that nothing on the outside matters, it is the nature on the inside that matters.
Till the late twentieth century humans with a darker skin tone were considered as slaves and not worthy of the luxuries of the world, and the fairer humans were considered beautiful. The so called ‘colored’ people were made to do the lowly work and were treated like dust under someone’s shoe. But our world has evolved from all those nasty norms. We no longer treat people according to the color of their skin.
Color was no longer dividing the beauty of any human. Their size was. The most well maintained or the thin bodies were considered beautiful and the poorly maintained or fat bodies were considered as ugly or to put it politely, not as beautiful as the thin. This new trend led to people especially women starving themselves to achieve a thin body. But just like earlier we have moved on from this hideous trend. The size of a person no longer determines their beauty.
We have all modified our lives according to these changes. And these are good changes, for the world, the society and our minds. Widening the acceptance of our mind to various things. These are good changes. And everyone would agree…wouldn’t they?
Most of us would say yes. But it’s not the truth. It’s not the same everywhere. Colored people are still tormented by the fairer ones. Not in the major and bigger cities. Of course not. In our big cities and tall buildings, we don’t really face this issue. But the lesser known cities, towns and villages, these ideals still do exist. People are enslaved for being darker than the others.
Size. Yes to most of us, it does not matter. But there are girls and boys who are teased and ragged about their weight, not only by students but also teachers. And these cases do sometimes come up in our cities, and in those times we fight against it and we win. But in other places these still do exist and they all go unnoticed. I mean if “size doesn’t matter” then why does anorexia still exist? Why do people still think that they are not thin enough? The confidence of the models on stage is not the end, it’s the beginning.
We have come quite far from where we used to be. We have modified our ways and adapted to them. These are not the only issues in our world. Child labor, child abuse, etc. still exist and will continue if we don’t take a bold step against it and mend what is wrong. Because it’s now or never…right?
