Anniversary Editorial

“What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity?  Our attitude towards it.  Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity.” As this quote by J. Sidlow Baxter comes flying into my head, I cannot help but relate it to the journey I have personally had at Spectralhues. By the time Spectralhues had finished a year, I had finished only some months and had become a witness to the terrific talent. But a year ago, little did I, or anyone of us, knew what was in store for us in the year ahead.

As time flew and days passed by, what we embraced was a wonderful and an amazing year. Our team expanded in Kolkata and Mumbai, with passionate people writing to us each day, expressing their interest in associating with us – new sections were launched, new ideas inducted and new plans laid and worked on. For someone who is yet to witness several more monsoons, this has indeed been a terrific experience at this young an age.

As I pen down this special anniversary editorial, I am able to reminisce that day in November when Rutuja Bhosle had first pinged us for writing and later joined our entertainment section. An idea always starts with a dream and a dream I had seen on joining Spectralhues was to have a team in Mumbai, as otherwise, the website had writers only from Kolkata. Rutuja’s entry made us discuss this and Alpona’s entry ignited it and we actually started our Mumbai team with three young and passionate writers. This team would go ahead only to expand with the entry of marvelous people!

As I write this, an eccentric feeling grips me. Being aware about the fact that we are still working hard, I find it rather amusing that we could do so much in a year – managing our daily routine simultaneously. And to put it in literal terms, we have come across different episodes in this time frame – some good and worth remembering, while others, really poor, yet worth learning from. Frankly, I never ever had even a slightest clue that so much could happen in just a year.

Our readers, who know me personally, often refuse to believe when I tell them we are way too young a website– only two years old. In a common response I receive, people credit us for the kind of work we do, our selection of stories and of course, our design, with which a lot have fallen in love instantly.

Any high-rise under construction takes some years to stand strong and attain perfection. Things don’t happen overnight. Similarly, a high-rise named Spectralhues.com, I still believe, is under construction. Our team – from all the sections – construct a new floor each day. More than success, we witness failures, given the fact ours is a start-up. But every failure only strengthens our attitude and determination.

As we enter into a new lap and another year commences, we have lot many plans for the site. And together, I am sure we will be able to accomplish them. Again, things won’t happen overnight as development is a slow and steady process. But, with time, our readers will certainly get to see many new stuffs on the site. And whatever we do, we assure we will do it with perfection and utmost determination.

Who is our main source of encouragement? Our readers. As whatsoever happens, our readers, the number is still growing, always encourage us by writing to us, pointing things out in their mails to us, crediting and cautioning. And hence, today, if someone deserves a big gratitude, it is, without any bone of contention, our readers and well-wishers!
