Wanted to watch the match like ‘a common spectator’: Hardik Patel

Patidar leader Hardik Patel was on Sunday, detained by the Rajkot police, following his threats of demonstrating a protest ahead of the India South-Africa One Day International match. Even before Patel could reach the Khandheri stadium, where the match is scheduled to take place, he was detained by the police at Madhapur cross road area.

Patel had threatened to demonstrate protests for Patel reservation at the venue of the ODI. As a result the Rajkot police had to ban mobile internet service in the area.

However, after his arrest Patel denied any plans of protesting and said that he wanted to watch the match like the other spectators. Soon after his arrest, he told reporters, “I just wanted to watch the match like a common spectator.”

Superintendent of Police, Jamnagar (Rural), Mr Pradip Sejul confirmed Patel’s arrest to PTI, while adding that Patel and his four supporters were detained when they were going to the cricket stadium in a farmer’s attire.

Patel and his detained supporters were then taken to SRF headquarters in Ghanteswar area on the outskirts of Rakot.
