Underworld don and a most wanted gangster Chhota Rajan was arrested in Bali, Indonesia, following a request made by Indian Interpol. The CBI confirmed the arrest of Rajan, a fugitive gangster, on Monday, while thanking the Indonesian and Australian authorities, with whom the CBI was working in close cooperation on this.
CBI Director Anil Sinha told The Times of India, “On the request of CBI (Interpol-India), Bali Police has arrested Rajan, who has other names – Mohan Kumar alias Rajendra Sadhashiv Nikhalji alias Chhota Rajan.” “We thank authorities in Australia and Indonesia for their prompt assistance. Further investigation and identification are being carried out and further action will be taken as required under law,” added Mr Sinha.
Reportedly, Rajan had been living in Australia with a fake identity. The Australian police on Sunday, had alerted the Indonesian authorities about a passenger wanted by Interpol. Following that, Rajan was arrested by the Indonesian police as he arrived in Bali from Sydney.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh thanked the Interpol and Indonesian authorities in cooperating and arresting one of the most wanted gangsters. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju too, said that the arrest was made after cooperation between India, Australia and Indonesia.
Chhota Rajan is to be deported to India. The Maharashtra government is to request the Centre to allow the gangster to be taken to Mumbai once he is deported to the country, Minister of State for Home, Ram Shinde said on Monday, PTI reported.
