After stretching the hit-and-run case for over a period of 13 years, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was convicted by the Bombay Sessions Court on Wednesday. Despite presenting all counter arguments, wherein his driver said that not Salman but he was driving that evening; all voices of Salman`s defense lawyers have been downplayed by the court as they finally gave the decision that Salman was driving the SUV in the drunken state under a great influence of alcohol. The Court also said that Salman was driving without a license when the accident had occurred. All charges for culpable homicide against Salman have been proven in the court which drove Salman in a nervous state inside the courtroom.
Apparently, Salman`s plea for bail also might get rejected, and all these opposite happenings have led to a huge wave of disappointment amongst his fans. Albeit defense lawyers haven`t given up yet and reportedly a major legal battle is going between defense and prosecution side in the courtroom, where Salman`s lawyers are continuously pleading to reduce the 10 years punishment period to just 3 years.
After convicting Salman, they are listening to the arguments of Salman`s lawyers on the quantum of punishment. If the sentencing is for 3 years, there are still hopes of Salman getting a bail. But, extending the period up to 10 would make it difficult to appeal for bail and get it passed. News is also breaking that sentencing of punishment could be done at 1:10pm.
Even if he decides to go to high court or upper judiciary body, it can`t happen in a moment`s time. So, Salman would have to spend at least a short time behind the bars. The Judge gave a similar example of hit-and-run case that had happened in New Delhi. Updates say that Salman completely broken down after hearing the verdict and lost control over his emotions and was seen crying. His brothers, Arbaaz and Sohail Khan walked out of the court along with Baba Siddiqui. All three completely shunned the media mob, refusing to utter even a word. Perjury charges might get filed against Salman`s driver Ashok Singh, leading both Salman and his driver in messy trouble further. The Judge is also said to have credited the prosecution and investigating officers.
