India’s hope for wrestling medal from Rio Olympic got a hitch when wrestler Narsingh Yadav reportedly failed the dope test for using banned substance.
Before the National Anti-Doping Agency announced the news officially, the Wrestling Federation of India has confirmed the report.
“Narsingh tested positive for a banned steroid,” NADA Director General Navin Agarwal informed media, adding, “His B sample was also found to be positive. Narsingh was personally present when his B sample was opened.”
“He appeared before a disciplinary panel yesterday. The panel sought for more reports regarding the matter. We will proceed further and I am hoping that the panel will proceed quickly,” Agarwal said.
The fate of the 74-kg freestyle wrestler would now on the hand of NADA final report.
The Indian Olympic Association refused to add anything on this development.
“We are yet to receive anything on Narsingh from NADA, WADA or even the WFI…The Olympic organising committee is in touch with IOA to know about the development,” IOA secretary Rajeev Mehta said.
Narsingh was earlier in news for his selection for Rio over double Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar.
