Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has hit out at the current Indian team coach Duncan Fletcher and said time has come him to go. After a catastrophic South Africa and New Zealand tour, Indian team’s disaster performance continues in the recently concluded Asia cup too and Gavaskar feels that Team India needs a younger coach now.
“It (Indian cricket) seems to be in a freefall that looks tough to arrest. What Indian cricket needs right now is a younger coach who will want to be out working with the team and not looking to put his feet up at the slightest chance. A young coach will galvanise the players and give them a fresh direction and energy. Look how Australia have turned it around in a few months by getting a younger man as coach,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for the Times of India.
Gavaskar also wrote that Indian team would not able defend the World Cup in 2015.
“There will be some who will argue that changing coaches with just one year to go is not a wise move, but unless that is done Indian cricket will continue to go down.”
