India slumps to a 121-run defeat in the hands of the Proteans after a batting collapse when it mattered most, enabling South Africa to level the two-match series 1-1.
India A went into this match with a moral boosting victory over the hosts as they won the first match by a comfortable margin of an innings and 13 runs at Rustenberg.
The visitors went down at Preotoria before some disciplined bowling by the hosts’ seamer Beuran Hendricks, claiming 6 wickets in the second innings, well supported by Simon Harmer, who chipped in with 3 wickets. However, it was Ajinkya Rahane (86) and Wriddhiman Saha’s watchful batting that put forward some resistance on behalf of the visitors, both securing well-made half-centuries,as they steadied the ship after some dismal batting performance from the Indian top-order batsmen.
After the tea-break once Hendricks went through Rahane’s defence, it was all but over for the Indians. Saha tried to put forward some sort of resistance but he was kept stranded at 77 as the Protean bowlers cleaned up the tail very soon.
Over all, There were lot of positives that could be taken from this series. Again such batting collapses could well be the alarming signs for the Indians who will be touring South Africa later this year.
