World number one Serena Williams made into headline for a bizarre reason this time. Irritated with rain disruption during her match against Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, she had threatened to sue Wimbledon if the Centre Court top was not closed during rains.
While talking to umpire Marija Cicak, Williams said, “I’m going to fall. I don’t get it. Can’t they just close the roof?” adding, “If I get hurt, I’m suing.”
However, after the 7-5 6-0 win, she cooled down and said, “What I say on the court, whether it’s smashing my rackets, it’s in the heat of the moment. I have no plans, no future of suing Wimbledon. Let’s get serious. That’s not what I do.”
The American is chasing to equal Steffi Graf’s record of 22 grand slam titles.
