Sania Mirza kept the Indian flag flying high in the first round of the mixed doubles of the Australian Open 2014 as she, partnering Romanian Tecau, won her opening match after making a comeback. The Indo-Romanian pair began the proceedings on a lower note but picked up their game just at the right moment to send their unseeded opponent packing at the end of the match.
The scoreline at the end of the match read 4-6, 7-6 (3), 10-8 in favour Mirza and Tecau. The 6th seeded pair of Mirza and Tecau played some brilliant tennis just at right time in the second set to win it in the tie-breaker. Though they could not break their opponent in a single game but capitalized on the mini-breaks in the second set tie-breaker to claw back into the match. The unseeded pair of Chan (Chinese Taipei) and Lindstedt (Sweden) could not keep up the momentum in the rest of the match after having won the first set 6-4 and succumbed to some good ground-strokes from Romanian Tecau. In the match tie-breaker also the Indo-Romanian duo continued to play in some good tennis and eventually won it 10-8. The match was an affair of just more than one-and-a-half-hour as the favourites survived the first set scare with ease.
