Real Madrid looks to be on the right path of a revenge of last year’s defeat against Borussia Dortmund when they won the first leg of the two-leg encounter at home with a scoreline of 3-0. Gareth Bale, Isco and Cristiano Ronaldo were on target for the Spanish giants as they had an easy outing in their own backyard last night. The Wales international opened the scoring for Real as early as in the 3rd minute of the match to give an important lead. Isco, who came in for an injured Angelo Di Maria few hours before the kick-off, then added the second for the home team in the 27th minute and paid back the manager’s trust in him. Real then, in an urge to finish of the tie even before the second leg, pushed forward for the third goal of the match but Dortmund keeper Weidenfeller kept the likes of Bale and Ronaldo at bay. Real finally got their reward within 12 minutes of the restart as FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo scored the third one of the night. Ronaldo with that nice finish equaled the tournament record of goals in one season.
Dortmund playing without six of their first eleven players including Robert Lewandowski tried their level best to achieve something from this encounter but failed to break the defense of Real Madrid. They might consider them a bit unfortunate as they could not register at least one away goal as Casillas made an awesome save from Marco Reus standing in a point-blank range.
With such a confidence enhancing victory, Real Madrid is looking good for a record 10th Champions League title. At the moment it’s Real Madrid’s tie to lose as they are in such a comfortable position after the first leg. Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, will look to comeback strongly in next week’s return leg at Germany to wipe out these three goals which they have conceded at Santiago Bernabeu. It will be a really hard job for the Germans. But you never know. Nothing is impossible in sports, particularly when it’s football.
