Four time finalist Maria Sharapova has kept her nerve and won her quarterfinal match against Italy’s Sara Errani in Miami Open on Wednesday.
Sharapova won 7-5, 7-5 against Errani and now will face former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic in the semis.
“With all the tournaments I have played, this one I have been so successful at but yet I haven’t won it,” said Sharapova after the match.
“I’ve been so close to winning. I would love to win this. I’ve been coming to this tournament since I was a little kid. It would mean a lot to win it,” she said.
In other semifinal world No. 1 Serena Williams will take on defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska on Thursday.
“I think it’s one of the toughest back to backs of the year. It’s the amount of matches. It’s also the late matches that you’re playing, the recovery. Also coming from different coasts, I mean, it’s not just a hop. It’s a five-hour flight. Conditions are completely different. It’s not easy,” Sharapova added.
