Manchester united sought sweet revenge over arch-rivals Liverpool when they beat them 1-0 at Old Trafford on their second meeting in the season. It undoubtedly brought great relief to the United manager as the fans enjoyed this victory after a loss at Anfield by same margin earlier this month.
United went into the match without their star striker Robin Van Persie, while Luis Suarez made a comeback in the Liverpool playing eleven. The first half was a battle of midfield as far as both the teams were concerned as they got very little opportunity to open the scoring. The match lacked pace and could never live up to expectations of a derby as the teams went into the break locked at 0-0.
However as the second half kicked-off, there was a sudden change in the mood of both the teams. This was when United looked the most dangerous. They got the lone goal of the match in the 47th minute when Mexican Javier Hernandez tucked in a flag-kick from Wayne Rooney. The matched got back its life with goal as both teams pressed forward to get a goal. While Wayne Rooney hit the post for United, Luis Suarez’s shot from a free-kick kissed the cross-piece and went over.
As the final whistle went off, it was great news for David Moyes as he tasted victory for the first time as United manager in a derby encounter after his team failed to do the necessary in the earlier derbies of the season. However the Red Devils need to make a lot of improvement in their field play in order to retain their Premier League title and have a respectable finish in the Champions League.
