One of India’s oldest iconic football clubs, Mohammedan Sporting, has deiced to shut down due to financial crisis.
The 123-year-old club has been struggling for the last few years and could not pay salaries to its employees for the last three months.
Mohammedan Sporting has always been regarded as the ‘Big Three of Bengal football’ along with Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. The 11-time Calcutta Football League champion team had won several trophies including Durand Cup, Federation Cup,IFA Shield and Rovers Cup.
When one side Indian football is looking forward to regain its glory with recently launched Indian soccer league, the news in the other side of shutting down of Mohammedan Sporting is indeed a huge blow to Indian football and its thousands of fans.
