Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain Gautam Gambhir and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captain Virat Kohli were involved in an ugly spat during the match on Thursday after Virat’s dismissal in the 10th over.
Kohli who was out and walking back to the pavilion suddenly stopped and charge back at Gambhir who was celebrating his dismissal. Both the captain was seen exchanging angry words. KKR all-rounder Rajat Bhatia and the umpires intervened on time to separate the two captains before it took ugly steps.
Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar slammed both Gambhir and Kohli for their ugly show.
“I think it just shows the intensity with which the IPL is played and how the players want to win. But any kind of bad language is certainly not acceptable. I think it’s sad that two players from Delhi Ranji Trophy team were involved in this. May be some old issues have resurfaced,” Gavaskar told NDTV.
The incident reminds memories of ‘Slapgate’ in which then Mumbai Indians captain Harbhajan Singh slapped Sreesanth after Kings XI Punjab beat MI in Mohali. Harbhajan Singh was later banned from the tournament.
